About me? What inspires or influences me? The first answer I have when I ask myself this question is the National Geographic photographers and artists from the magazines I loved and poured over and cut up and treasured when I was growing up. All the faces of all the people around the world, the animals, the drawings, the expressions, the textures, the variety life, the span of time, the grace, the dignity they were given (at least as I experienced them), the lush layers of life across the globe. Street photography is my love, and spontaneous image capture, much more about mood. The hazy, touching, funny, fleeting memory of a moment, more than a perfectly lit, expertly crafted highly engineered photo that checks all the boxes. Those are pretty, but those are not my life. I promise to get better and to practise and grow, but my heart is always going to be more fond of the beautiful blur.
I want to thank my friends and mentors and gurus for supporting me, guiding me, pushing & shoving and outright challenging me to put myself out into the world. Lola and Malcolm, MY guru/artist friends who literally gave me a New Year's Challenge to start this site and share my art (an audacious change to tradition! I love it!) and sat me down to do it! They also remind me to dive headfirst into creativity at every moment that one can. Eric, an amazing photographer, artist and all around thinker, who taught me to use a camera (but don't blame him, I'm a terrible student) and to take even a simple walk around the block and turn it into a photo safari, and to be braver. Thor, another outstanding photographer, who's miles above me in skill and courage, who goes where I would never go to get shots that blow your socks off at demonstrations and other melees. My older sister, Barbara, who has the eye for perfection that I lack, and an absolute joy of photographing that beams out of her.
